The Missing Ingredient
“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.”
The website “Add a Pinch” gives a recipe for “The Best Chocolate Cake Ever.” Ingredients for this delicious cake include:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon espresso powder
- 1 cup milk buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
What would happen if I left the chocolate out? Or the sugar? Forget to put the icing on top?
It wouldn’t taste right. If I let someone taste the incomplete cake, they would make a face much like someone who had just sucked on a lemon. You have to put in all the ingredients!
This morning, I read this verse before praying with my co workers.
I prayed that God would give us His peace. Quoting Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”
I acknowledged that we are one body, and mentioned that part of the body is hurting right now. (Nursing homes and assisted living facilities struggling with a dramatic increase in cases of Covid 19.)
I prayed for healing, and for an end to this pandemic.
But, I forgot to thank Him.
God reminds us:
“IN EVERYTHING give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
I Thessalonians 5:18
So, no matter what is happening, or how I feel, I resolve to thank God. We have so much to be thankful for!
