Sleep

Sleep

Sleep

“I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭

Do you have trouble going to sleep? Can’t seem to turn your mind off? Try Z-Help…. For a peaceful night’s sleep…

Just kidding… There’s no such thing as Z-Help. However, there are many sleep “aids.”

There are many medicines and herbs designed to help us go to sleep.

White noise machines are used sometimes. I used to go to sleep with an ocean waves You Tube video playing.

Some have suggested that we can’t get to sleep because of electronic devices. (I know, it’s hard to put them down!)

There are so many thoughts and research on this subject.

But, the best advice might be in today’s verse.

Notice that David starts off by saying emphatically, “I will…” He decides to trust God.

It’s a conscious choice. I imagine being king has a lot of stress and headaches. There were enemies who wanted to kill him. So much responsibility! It would be easy to take these worries to bed, but David makes a choice.

“I will lie down in peace and sleep…” How could he be at peace and sleep, with so much to be concerned about?

The answer comes in the second half of the verse.

“For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.”

David places his trust in God. He trusted in Him alone! He realizes that staying awake and worrying doesn’t help.

While there is a lot of things we can do to help us go to sleep, I think the best of all is talking to God. Give Him your worries. He’ll be up all night anyway!

Random Thankfulness

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

1 Chronicles 16:34

The alarm was too loud this morning.

I’m thankful I could hear it.

It was too cold to go walking outside, so I had to do my walking inside.

I’m thankful I can walk.

Passing by a trash can, I smelled a bad odor.

I’m thankful I can smell.

The coffee was a little stronger than I wanted.

I’m thankful I can taste, and for coffee!

I feel tired this morning and don’t feel like working.

I’m thankful to have a job.

I’m thankful to be alive.

I’m thankful for God’s love, mercy and grace!

When I’m tempted to complain, I will look for things that I’m thankful for.

The eternal love and blessings of God far outweigh any temporary annoying problems that are a part of life.

Thanks be to God!
